Klaipeda University scientists to patent a principle for sustainable energy development

Klaipėda is home to large marine cargo handling companies, and there are thousands of them in ports around the world. Each of these companies has hundreds of thousands of containers, each of which can weigh around 30 tons. A team from the Faculty of Marine Technologies and Natural Sciences at Klaipeda University (KU) has invented a principle of storing compressed-air-energy in special tanks for use in vehicles for lifting or other works, when stacking containers and making use of their enormous weight. This year, this scientific invention – Pneumo-mechanical device that converts the kinetic energy of the impact of a load into the potential compressed-air-energy – was granted a patent by the European Union (EU).

Klaipeda University and Microsoft to join hands for Technology & Security Conference

On November 13-14, Klaipeda University (KU) hosts the Technology & Security Conference organized by the University and Microsoft. This is the first time that an event of such format, which brings together IT managers from all higher education institutions of the Baltic countries and Microsoft professionals, has been held in Lithuania. The conference of unique format focuses on IT security, artificial intelligence, and the application of state-of-the-art technologies in higher education institutions. Representatives of universities and several colleges in the Baltics share their experiences, while Microsoft experts present recent AI developments for the education sector.

KU to inroduce a new Dance Sport specilization: to train not only performers but also coaches and teachers

Last month the new Dance Sport specialization for the Leisure Sports studies bachelor’s degree program was presented during a press conference at Klaipėda University. After a 10-year break, the University aims to bring back the champion spirit of dance sport and to train professionals in this field. The unique feature of the new specialization offered by the University is that graduates will not only be able to pursue a career as performers, but also as coaches or teachers.

At 4 June 2024, Klaipeda University (KU) opened its new smart coworking space EU-CONEXUS (European University for Smart Urban Coastal Sustainability), which is designed for both work and leisure. The new space will allow students and members of the university community to gather, work, and relax. It is expected to be the birthplace of many new ideas and important research papers.

The winter images of the Baltic seashore might seem blindingly white, but the layer of snow covers the dark side of this beautiful sight – the environmentally damaging litter left behind or washed away by the waves. The quantities of litter found on Lithuanian beaches exceeds the European standart which defines the good condition of beaches by a dozen to several dozen times over. The situation is no better in Latvia either.
