Overview

This study programme ensures research & practice-led studies of the physical environment with a special focus on the marine environment. The main aim of the programme is to prepare highly qualified specialists who are able to creatively apply the acquired knowledge of geo-information technologies and physical geography in the fields of the marine environment, land management, and environmental protection.

Programme structure

During the studies, students analyse the sea-land system and its environmental functioning. The courses in the curriculum consists of Oceanography, Hydrology, Meteorology and Climatology, Geographical Information Systems (GIS), Geographical Research Methods, Cartography, Coastal Processes, Remote Sensing Methods, System Analysis and Mathematical Modelling, General Geography etc. Besides theoretical courses, students participate in a number of the field practices: Hydrology, Geodesy and Geomorphology, Oceanography practice in the marine research vessels of Klaipeda University “Mintis” and/or “Brabander”. During apprenticeship, students consolidate knowledge of the environment awareness and get new skills while working in various institutions.

Career opportunities

Graduates can interpret natural, climatic and social phenomena and can apply this knowledge in practice while working in various nature protection departments and other environmental protection institutions, or hydrometeorological services.
